XTIMEWT is a 16-digit numeric variable.

Description

XTIMEWT is a version of RECWGHT that is limited to states in all samples between 1965 and the present. This cross-time weight is identical to the recommended weight (RECWGHT) for all persons residing in states that were included in all samples. The geographic coverage of surveys in AHTUS varies over time. The 1992-1994 and 2003-forward surveys sampled all contiguous states; Hawaii and Alaska are included in the 203-forward surveys. Earlier surveys did not include all states – particularly smaller and more rural states, nor did they include Alaska and Hawaii. XTIMEWT is offered as an additional weight for analyses where these sample differences may affect results. XTIMEWT is identical to RECWGHT for the 1965-1966, 1975-1976, and 1985 surveys, but it excludes the diarists from the additional states in 1992-1994 and 2003 forward.
